Q:
Is acupuncture the only form of treatment used by YAO Clinic?
A:
No. We also offer homeopathic medicine, Chinese herbal medicine, auricular medicine, rolfing, and aesthetic therapy. Your health professional may produce a homeopathic remedy or construct an herbal preparation using traditional Chinese medicinal herbs. A health professional in the YAO Pharmacy will prepare these medicinal herbs specifically for you, based on your diagnosis.
Q:
What can I expect to feel during a treatment?
A:
Acupuncture needles are hair-thin, sterile, pliable metal needles. While people often feel a sensation when the needle is inserted, it rarely hurts, and for many people, the sensation can be pleasant. As a result, you may feel intense emotions, or may become deeply relaxed during treatment. Sometimes people even fall asleep. Feel free to discuss any of these experiences with your acupuncturist, as he may be looking for specific responses to your treatment to determine its efficacy.
A:
Rolfing® is a deep-tissue massage therapy and structural integration of the body's segments. Your health professional will adjust the pressure of your massage during treatment, according to your feedback. You can expect the treatment to be focused and direct. The affected tissue will soften in response to the pressure and stretching, and the musculature will relax, changing your physiology. Your health professional will encourage you to increase your water intake following your session.

Q:
Will acupuncture interfere with my prescription medications or other medical treatments?
A:
No. Acupuncture will not interfere with prescription medications. In fact, it may help heal your body more quickly. Based on the results of acupuncture treatment, prescription dosages may even be decreased by your personal medical physician.
Q:
How many needles are typically used in one acupuncture treatment? How long does a treatment last?
A:
In a typical session, three to 15 needles may be used and will follow points associated with your condition. The session will last between 15 minutes and one hour, depending on the symptoms and nature of your condition.

Q:
Is there a risk of disease transmission from acupuncture needles?
A:
Acupuncture needles are sterile, as regulated by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA). The needles are packaged for single-use, and are then safely discarded by your acupuncturist after treatment.
Q:
What are homeopathic remedies?
A:
Homeopathic remedies are most often plant-, animal- or mineral-derived substances that have been diluted to a specific strength, based on its intended application. Remedies can be packaged in liquid, pellet, or dissolving tablet form. Homepathic remedies can be single or compound remedies for internal or topical use.

Q:
How does rolfing complement acupuncture?
A:
Much like acupuncture, rolfing is a therapy that releases deeply rooted patterns of misalignment in the body. Rolfing, when utilized prior to acupuncture, can accelerate the healing process.
Q:
What methods are used in diagnosing a condition?
A:
Your health professional will use several diagnostic tools, including an evaluation of your diet, lifestyle, habits, sleep cycles, physical activity, and the review of lab tests or diagnostic reports, and other relevant material. For acupuncture, your pulse will be taken at three locations on each wrist, and at different amounts of pressure to derive information about your organ systems, based on 28 different pulse types. The color, coating, shape and appearance of your tongue provide valuable information for your health professional, and may suggest a specific diagnosis.
